The main towns in the region of Vega Media del Río Segura are Murcia and Fortuna.

Murcia is the capital of the autonomous region and as such offers a great variety of services and transport links. Over the last few years many developments have been built around golf courses and there are excellent facilities for those keen on this sport. These developments have been perfectly integrated into the natural environment of Murcia, famous for its agriculture that supplies a large part of Europe with fruit and vegetables and makes the region's cuisine one of the most outstanding in Spain.

Fortuna dates back over 2,000 years and archaeological remains show that the Romans took advantage of its thermal waters. Vines carpet the fields to the north of the region and form the wine producing areas of Jumilla and Yecla, holders of their own designation of origin, which are also home to numerous Stone Age, Iberian and Roman remains.

A significant investment in the improvement and expansion of the road network, particularly motorways, has enhanced the transport links between the different regions of Murcia province and with the rest of Spain. The rail network is also being expanded and a high-speed train (AVE) will shortly connect Murcia with Madrid and the Valencia region. A new regional airport with the latest national and international airline infrastructure is also planned.
